Welcome to Lucky Hens

Reserve your girls today!
Our next rescue day is 14 December
We are a not for profit organisation and animal sanctuary, run entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to;

  • Rehoming hens from the commercial egg production sector to suitable homes where the hens can live out their lives in a natural environment
  • Helping to educate people about the egg industry and encourage them to make better choices with their food
  • Educating people about egg hatching projects and what happens to the chicks when they are returned to the egg hatching company

Hens that are used in the egg industry are sent to slaughter at the age of 72 weeks, when their egg production usually drops slightly. The hens are worth very little to the farmer and are usually sold for pet food or for cheap processed food.

Lucky Hens works with farmers in the local area to try to save as many hens as we can on a regular basis. We usually hold rehoming days every one to two months, where we will save as many hens as we can.

We rehome hens to all different kinds of people who live in all different types of homes; from towns with yards to country gardens You don’t need to have a big garden to keep a few hens and the girls will be grateful for the additional years of freedom you can offer them.
28,618 hens saved from slaughter!
